cabaret past. present. future.

past

I started cabaret in the old Disability Arts cabarets of the mid to late 90’s, before honing my skills as an MC for The Erotic Awards ( see links), The Whoopee Club (see links), regional and London based Disability Arts cabarets, and more recently with my own inclusive ( meaning with disabled and non disabled artists performing) shows, called “Mat Fraser’s Sex Variety Cabaret” ( the only reason the word SEX is in the title is to get more people, and it works, which is both sad and gratifying).  With these I try to cross pollinate the Disability Arts, burlesque, and variety cabaret audiences into some new inclusive crowd. Over the years I’ve gone from mostly political based rap/poetry acts, to more and more comedy and songs, ending up where I am now in some weird land of mixing it all up. I also MC comedy shows, all sorts really.

present

Nothing, until I’ve finished this play!

future

“Mat Fraser’s Sex Variety Cabaret” ’s will hopefully return, I haven’t done so many recently but there are plans, and I’m very glad to be doing another “Sealboy & the Blondes 2” show, this time again at The Slipper Room, Lower East side NYC, starring myself, Dirty Martini ( who ripped it fucking UP at the recent Immodesty Blaise show in London) , Bambi the Mermaid ( and possibly little Willow), Bunny Love, Julie Atlas Muz, Tigger, and maybe a special blonde guest from the U.K.)
While I’m in NYC I’ll be doing this year’s “Superfreak Weekender” for 2008 on the weekend of 3rd and 4th May, in Coney Island ( see links) , and I would like to get a regular London slot, but don’t really have the time.
My next London cabaret spots are: Gawkagogo Freakshow on 9th April, @ Brick Lane’s Vibe bar ( NOT for the faint hearted, but FOR the lovers of weirdness, freakery and shock), then Paul L Martin’s “Sideshow” on the 11th April ( and the 14th May probably), @ The Arts Club, Arts Theatre, Gt Newport St, London, followed by some possible festival slots over the Summer, such as Camp Bestival, and The Big Chill, details are coming and all info for all these show are either already on or soon will be on the News and Events page.
Last year my cabaret highlights were Lost Vagueness at Glastonbury, White Mischief in London, and Day of the Dead in Braga, Portugal.
